Three Stars and a Wish

Pattern Name

THREE STARS AND A WISH (Larson et al., 2008, p. 21)

Pattern Language

Continuous Feedback Pedagogical Patterns

Category

This pattern is applicable for all phases of the ATS2020 learning model.

Active Role

This pattern was originally written for teachers to help students, but it could also be used by students directly if the pattern was adapted accordingly.

Summary

Teachers want to give FEEDBACK to a student’s performance in a sensitive way. Therefore, three positive aspects of the students work (three stars) as well as a suggestion for improvement (the wish) are mentioned in the feedback (Larson et al., 2008, p. 21).

Example for Technological Support

This FEEDBACK strategy is not only suitable for teachers but also for PEER REVIEW. It could be provided in an online FAQ section by the teacher to help students in giving feedback to each other’s artefacts.
